A Queens Village man was convicted of attempted murder for firing on two police officers during a burglary and car chase last year.

A Nassau County jury convicted a Queens Village man on May 17 of attempted murder for leading police on what could have been a deadly car chase after a burglary in Elmont last year. In addition to four counts of first-degree attempted murder, Isaac Holland, 26, was found guilty of burglary, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.

Holland, along with three other armed men, broke into a house on Dorothea Lane early on April 4, 2009, tied up the family inside with duct tape, and made off in a van with stolen cell phones and cash, according to information from Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice. Following a 911 call from one of the victims, two responding officers then trailed the van into Queens, where Holland fired a handgun at them through the back window. The van stopped when the officers returned fire. A short chase on foot ensued, and all four suspects were soon caught.

“This violent attack on two Nassau County police officers drives home the reality of the dangers our brave police officers face every day,” Rice said in a statement. “I am very pleased that the jury returned guilty verdicts on all counts.”

Holland could receive up to 50 years in prison. The trials for the other three suspects, all of whom face similar charges, have not yet taken place.

Holland remains in police custody. His sentencing will take place on June 16.
