Students at Floral Park-Bellerose School participated in the Great Kindness Challenge between Jan. 24 and Jan. 28 by dressing up for themed days and carrying out a challenge of kindness.

Presented by Kids for Peace, a California nonprofit organization, the Great Kindness Challenge is an international campaign that promotes kindness in K-12 schools.

At Floral Park-Bellerose School, students were invited to dress up for each themed day and were presented with a kindness challenge, such as “donate to your favorite charity,” or “smile and say ‘hello’ to someone new” or “compliment others today,” the school Floral Park school district explained in a statement.

The Great Kindness Challenge week kicked off with “Peace, Love and Kindness” day, when students came to school wearing tie dye or neon colors. On Tuesday, students wore mismatched clothing, shoes and socks, or wore their clothing backwards, for “Mixed Up in Kindness” day.

Next, crazy hairstyles and hats were seen in the hallways on Wednesday for “Crazy for Kindness” day. On Thursday, students were able to dress like a teacher or twin with a friend for “Double the Kindness” day. The week concluded on Jan. 28 with “Team Kindness” day, when students dressed in their favorite sports team apparel.
