The Hewlett-Woodmere Giants win the pennant!

With a 14-hit barrage led by Mitch Shemtov, 3-for-3 4 RBI, and Nick Tumminello who went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI, the Giants of the Hewlett-Woodmere Little League won the Intermediate Division championship 12-7 over the Diamondbacks at Grant Park in Hewlett on Father’s Day.

Grant Park hosts an Islander practice

For two hours Grant Park’s outdoor ice rink was home to a full-fledged New York Islander practice, where the team went through its typical warm-ups and drills in Hewlett on Monday.

It was the entire top floor of a car dealership just off what would eventually become Interstate 86, at the edge of the Finger Lakes region upstate. This would be my first apartment — my first home outside the family home where I grew up in Pennsylvania.
