Bonding community through music

Five Towns One Community, a partnership between the Lawrence Public Schools, private schools, local houses of worship, clergy and the Five Towns Community Chest hosted a concert at Lawrence High School on Jan. 5 that benefitted Five Towns One Community that serves families in need.

International recording artist Chaim Dovid and Latin band Que Swing Urbano performed in the Lawrence High School auditorium. Based on a figure provided by the groups involved, 65 percent of the students enrolled in the Lawrence School District are at or below the federal mandated poverty level.

Acting as a structural organization, Five Towns One Community, will bring together several groups to help community members during the winter months. “The Five Towns is not immune to the current economic downturn; actually the numbers of our neighbors in need, especially children is mind boggling,” said Bob Block, who is the campaign chair.
