Entertainment for children of all ages, food and gifts will all be part of the Nassau County Police Department’s Faith & Blue event from 10 a.m. to noon at Congregation Beth Sholom at 390 Broadway in Lawrence as a way to connect to the community.

Faith & Blue is a nationwide event with a mission to unify communities and law enforcement through the connections of local faith-based organizations.

This event aims to “bridge communities together with the police officers” officer Alex Zokarz said. He and his partner officer are helping to coordinate the event.

“Communities are stronger and safer when residents and law enforcement work together,” Ramirez said.

Representing NCPD will be members from its various units, including Bureau of Special Operations, Community Affairs, Emergency Servicest, Highway and Problem-Oriented Policing. Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder are expected to attend.

“These kinds of events are what we’re all about in Nassau County,” Curran wrote in an email. She is running for re-election and is opposed by Town of Hempstead Bruce Blakeman, who represents the 3rd Council District which includes a portion of the Five Towns.

“Building strong relationships and trust between police and the community has been key to Nassau being named safest County in America two years in a row by US News and World Report,” Curran added.

“We have a lot of giveaways — frisbees, balls, backpacks — and we’re going to try and get bagels and coffee for everybody,” Zokarz said.
