Far Rockaway woman killed in Inwood crash

A Far Rockaway woman who lost control of a motorcycle she was driving in Inwood struck a utility pole on Sheridan Boulevard at 2:50 a.m. on Aug. 10 and died less than two hours later, police said.
Melissa Harris, 31, of Beach 40th Street, and her 41-year-old passenger, also a woman, were on a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle heading west on Sheridan Boulevard when the vehicle hit the pole, according to police.
Harris suffered head and facial trauma, her right wrist and right femur were both fractured. She was taken by Nassau County police ambulance to Jamaica Hospital, and pronounced dead at 4:15 a.m. The passenger suffered a concussion. She was taken by the Inwood Fire Department to a local hospital for treatment, and was listed in stable condition, police said.
The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check. Police said there was “no apparent criminality.” The investigation is continuing.
