Five Towners speak out on new rules, vaccine testing

With the surging number of Covid-19 cases occurring across the country and a rise in the infection rate in New York state including Long Island, Gov. Andrew Cuomo mandated that  bars, restaurants, bowling alleys, movie theaters and pool halls most close by 10 p.m. and limited home gatherings to 10 people.

Putting the question, What do you think of the state Covid restrictions of limiting home gatherings to 10 people? on Facebook we received a few responses that varied in perspective.

“I believe that restricting 10 people in your own home is ridiculous,” posted Cedarhurst resident Marc Tenzer. “You should be smart and use good judgement. Dining, movies and other venues, unfortunately, should close early. We need to stop this virus from spreading and this is one way. In our area, people are doing this to themselves by not listening to the experts.”

I believe the restrictions are fair,” longtime Inwood resident Barbara Thompson wrote. “It is better to be restricted for a time so we live to see this pandemic end or at least under control.  If everyone follows the rules then we could avoid a total shutdown and some income can still made. Better to be alive above ground then to be dead underground. Stay safe and healthy.”

“People should use their own judgement,” stated Matthew Russo, who lives in Woodmere. “I think we are at the point of another shutdown because [there were] 4,800 cases [on Nov. 5.]”

“The problem is there are too many opinions, the necessary steps must be taken to control then defeat this pandemic,” New York City resident Charles Poe posted.

Another question asked if you would volunteer for Covid vaccine Phase III trials.

“I would be interested in being tested early because I am a cancer survivor want to see how it affects those who went through chemo also for my work I work as you know in the public working at yeshivas around the general public a lot,” Cedarhurst resident Mark Getman posted, adding, “let me know who’s doing the testing or where I could submit my name.”
