Its Board of Trustees will meet on Wednesday, December 2, at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall, located at 30 Piermont Ave. in Hewlett.

Five Towns Community Chest
The oldest fundraising organization in the Five Towns will hold its 2009 Annual Meeting on Monday, December 7, at 7 p.m. at the Hewlett Woodmere Public Library, located at 1125 Broadway in Hewlett. Shea Z. PFC John J. Oliveri Post 1582

District 14
Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools’ Board of Education will hold its next work meeting on Wednesday, December 9, at 7:30 p.m. Its next regular meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 16, at 8 p.m. Both meeting will take place at the Woodmere Education Center, located at One Johnson Place in Woodmere.


Five Towns Forum
An independent organization dedicated to free discussion of pertinent  national issues will hold a meeting on Friday, December 11, at 8 p.m. at Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library, located at 1125 Broadway in Hewlett. Speaker Sander Hicks will lead a discussion titled "The Other Story Behind the 9/11 Catastrophe and Its Implications." Hicks has worked in Long Island as an anti-racist and anti-poverty activist for UPSERJ, a part of the Long Island Alliance for Peaceful Alternatives. As a reporter, he has done ground-breaking research on the 9/11 attack for New York Press, independent television, Alternet, and the Long Island Press. He is the author of “The Big Wedding: 9/11, the Whistle-Blowers, and the Cover-Up." For more information, call (516) 623-5689.

District 15
Lawrence Public Schools will hold its next Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, December 15, at 8 p.m. at Lawrence Middle School, located at 195 Broadway in Lawrence. The public is invited to attend. The board may entertain a motion to enter executive session. At such a meeting, such matters as may lawfully be considered may be acted upon by the board.


Village of Cedarhurst
The Board of Trustees holds meetings on the first Monday of each month, unless otherwise noted. Meetings begin at 8 p.m. and are held in Village Hall, located on Cedarhurst Avenue in Cedarhurst.

Village of Hewlett Harbor
The Board of Trustees meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in Village Hall on Pepperidge Road. Board agendas are posted at Village Hall and residents are encouraged to attend these meetings, which are open to the public.

Woodmere Merchants Association
meets on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Signature Bank at 923 Broadway in Woodmere.

Inwood Civic Association
meets the first Thursday of the month at Sons of Italy Hall, located at 202 Wanser Ave. in Inwood. The board meets at 7 p.m. with a regular meeting starting at 8 p.m. For more information, call (516) 239-9088.

Sanitary District 1
The Board of Commissioners will meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the district office on Bay Boulevard in Lawrence.
Greater Atlantic Beach Water Reclamation District
will hold a regular meeting of its Board of Commissioners every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Board of Commissioners’ Board Room, located on Bay Boulevard in Atlantic Beach.

Senior Fair
Sponsored by NLS, Senior Connections, in cooperation with the 5 Towns Senior Center, will take place on Wednesday, December 2, beginning at 10 a.m. Events for seniors will be held throughout the library, from meditation to a Gilbert and Sullivan performance, and community groups with information for seniors.
In the Footsteps of Marco Polo
with filmmakers Denis Belliveau and Francis O’Donnell will take place on Sunday, December 13, at 2:30 p.m. Belliveau and O’Donnell retrace Marco Polo’s entire 25,000 mile, land and sea route from Venice to China and back, spending two incredible years of their lives making their dream a reality. Board of Trustees Meeting
The Peninsula Public Library Board of Trustees will be meeting in open session on Thursday Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
Slide Lecture
Thomas Germano, art historian and teacher of art history at SUNY Farmingdale, will lead a slide lecture titled “Gustave Caillebotte & The Impressionist Vision” on Thursday, December 3, at 1 p.m. The event is free.

Members enjoy current events, discussions, music and art lessons, bus trips, movies, live entertainment, intermediate and duplicate bridge, computer lessons, flexercise, tai chi, yogalaties and child care. The center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Art Lecture
Portraits and self-portraits in the Metropolitan Museum of Art will be the subject of a lecture titled “Powerful People” on Thursday, December 3, at p.m. The lecture will explore the personalities and attitudes of the artists toward themselves, their families and their friends. Works by Rembrandt, Goya and Van Gogh, among others, will be shown. The program will be sponsored by the Seawane Country Club.The program is free for senior center members; $10 non-members.
Jewelry Sale
There will be a sale of one-of-a-kind jewelry which has been donated to the center beginning at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 3. Preceding the sale, members may enjoy a kosher lunch provided by Caring People.
James J. Kolb Lecture Series
Placido Domingo, the great Spanish tenor, will be the subject of the concluding lecture in James J. Kolb’s series, “Milestones in Music.” The program will run from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8. Domingo, who recently debuted in his 128th opera role, has more roles to his credit than any other tenor.  Kolb is professor of drama at Hofstra University. He is an experienced stage director, author of several books and a lecturer on opera and the American musical theatre. The program is free for senior center members; $10 for non-members.

Inwood Buccaneers Youth Indoor Soccer Registration
Registration for the Inwood Buccaneers indoor youth soccer league for children in kindergarten through seventh grade will take place on Monday and Tuesday Dec. 7 and 8th from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the Clubhouse on 273 Lawrence Ave., North Lawrence. For further information call (516) 239-9663.


Kulanu Young Leadership Division
Community Talk, The Challenged Child, a Challenge for the Community will take place on Tuesday, December 1, at 8 p.m. This event, which will be graciously hosted by Heidi and Jonathan Talansky at 301 Eastwood Road in Woodmere, will feature Lauri Barbanel, Monica Guttman, and Yardena Miller who will share their experiences and viewpoints of how the community can become sensitive to the stresses and challenges parents of children with disabilities confront. Jonathan Cooper, Kulanu’s Director of Inclusion and Community Services, will discuss how to create an inclusionary atmosphere and attitude by beginning with our community’s young children. The community is invited and encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served.


St. John's Episcopal Hospital
will offer HIV/AIDS screening on World AIDS Day which is Tuesday, December 1. The screening, which is confidential and free of charge, will take place between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the hospital's first floor boardroom. The hospital is located at 327 Beach 19th Street in Far Rockaway. The screening involves a fingerstick and results will take 20 minutes. Educational information and counseling are also provided. The screening is being provided by the Ryan White program of Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center. Temple Am Echad
will hold the installation ceremony of Rabbi Glenn Jacob on Sunday, December 6, from 11-11:30 a.m. at the temple, located at 1 Saperstein Plaza in Lynbrook. The Soldiers Project is offering free mental health counseling to all our military personnel who are now serving or have served in Iraq and Afghanistan and their families and loved ones.
