Five Towns students noted for academic achievement

Jessica Beyer, Lawrence High School class of 2015, announced on Twitter that she was selected as a Newhouse Scholar for the 2018-2019 school year, as well as one of five students from a graduating class of more than 500 to compete for the honor of University Scholar. “ [I am] looking forward to my final semester at Syracuse University,!” she tweeted.

Hofstra University student Jacqueline Pollina of Hewlett, a philosophy major, was one of 42 seniors from 23 departments and a variety of interdisciplinary programs were recognized for outstanding achievement at the inaugural Academic Excellence Awards presented by Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The students received a certificate and a $100 gift.

SUNY Oneonta announced that 1,584 students were named to the fall semester dean’s list, including Marina Bocci of Woodmere, and Lexi Liebowitz and Sapir Riskovich, both from Hewlett. Students qualified for the honor by attaining a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher with a course load of 12 hours or more.
