Having a blast at LWA’s homecoming

Lawrence Woodmere Academy’s sixth annual homecoming included boys and girls soccer games, carnival booth, games, rides, a variety of food and raffles.

On the serious side, there was a registration drive for potential bone marrow donors. This was prompted by what LWA pre-school teacher Judi Schiffer, a lifelong Five Towns resident, went through last year. She was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in July of 2015. Her doctors deemed her bone marrow transplant in November of last year a success.

New York Presbyterian/Cornell Weill Medical Center in Manhattan and the Be The Match organization collaborated on finding Schiffer’s donor. To learn more, visit join.bethematch.org.
