Learning how to give CPR in Hewlett Harbor

The Village of Hewlett Harbor held a free training session of the proper administration of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, or simply, CPR, and the use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) equipment, on May 4 at the Seawane Club.

In collaboration with the Robbie Levine Foundation, an organization that honors the memory of Robbie Levine, a 9-year-old boy who’s heart stopped during a little league practice on Sept. 27, 2005, neighbors of Hewlett Harbor were trained by instructors associated with the foundation on how to give CPR.

Since its inception, the foundation has trained over 10,000 people, free of charge.

“CPR and the use of AED equipment can double or triple changes of survival after cardiac arrest, said Mark Weiss, Hewlett Harbor’s Mayor in a news release. “Our hope is that by training residents and members of our security patrol in the proper administration of CPR, we will significantly increase the chances of survival if a resident should have a heart attack while in the village.”

Neighbors also received instructions on how to perform CPR on children.
