Hewlett Point Beach in East Rockaway closed

Nassau County closes 19 beaches as precautionary measure

Posted

Hewlett Point Beach in East Rockaway is one of 19 Nassau County beaches that were closed as of June 14 by the county’s Department of Health due to stormwater runoff from the heavy rainfall that could elevate bacterial levels and affect the bathing water’s quality.

In addition to Hewlett Point, the other South Shore beaches are Biltmore Beach Club, Island Park Beach, Philip Healy Beach and Merrick Estates Civic Association. There are 14 North Shore beaches closed, including North Hempstead Beach Park.

Residents can call (516) 227-9717 between 9 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. during the week to speak with a Health Department representative. For up-to-date recorded information on beach closings and openings, call (516) 277-9700.
