Hewlett’s contest winners

Hewlett Elementary School in the Hewlett-Woodmere School District announced the winners of its Earth Day Poster and Essay Contest it held in conjunction with Poem in your Pocket Day on April 14, which was also the contest’s submission deadline.

Winners in the Poster contest were: Fifth grader Shree Patel with runners up Sydney Feldman and Christina Curra and fourth grader Harry McNeil with runner up Jaime Kruger.

Third grader Adi Gutman and second grader Jonathan Levin with runner up Rachel Zelicoff. Honorable mentions for oversized posters went to Vanessa Valenti, Alex Vardaro and Gavin Adler and Alex Arad, Harry Salow and David Silverman. Essay contest winners included fifth grader Julia Teshler, fourth grader Taylor Ferrara and runner up Mia Morgan, third grader Jordan Sirlin and second grader Talia Winiarsky.

The contest had the students create a poster on 8 ½ x 11 paper or write a one-page essay based on the Earth Day themes of What does “go green” mean to you? How I follow the three Rs —reduce, reuse, recycle. And, how we help save the earth?
