Feyisola Akinnawonu, a Hewlett High School senior, has been named a 2010 National Achievement Merit Finalist for Black American students.

"I am incredibly honored that I have some tangible achievements that can validate me on a national level," said Akinnawonu, whose older sister, Oluwamodupe, received the same prestigious honor in 2008.

Akinnawonu has a schedule replete with Advanced Placement and Honors level classes, and as a junior was named captain of Hewlett's girls' volleyball and track and field teams. The North Woodmere resident is also a member of the Human Rights Awareness Club, the Concert Band and the Marching Band. She would like to attend either Brown or Duke universities, and plans to major in history or international relations.
