Merendino leaving Village of Lawrence

Longtime Lawrence government official Toni Merendino will be leaving the village at the end of the month for a position in the Hewlett-Woodmere school district.

Merendino, who spent three decades in Lawrence, including as village administrator from 2005-2009 and currently as deputy village clerk, will take on a new role in the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools as confidential stenographic secretary. The Woodmere resident and Inwood native's last day in Lawrence Village Hall will be Feb. 28.

"She has been the consummate professional and has kept this village together for many, many years," said Lawrence Village Administrator David Smolett. "Lawrence's loss is Hewlett-Woodmere's gain."

Smolett said he hopes to have a replacement for Merendino by mid February.
