It's showdown Saturday on the Nassau County high school gridirons as the No. 1 and No. 2 preseason seeds meet, highlighted by a battle of unbeatens in Conference I between defending champion Freeport and East Meadow at 1:30 p.m.
The Red Devils (6-0) will try to do some home cooking, but keeping the Jets (6-0) out of the end zone won't be easy. East Meadow is averaging 44.8 points per game but comes off its lowest output of the season in a 20-7 victory over Baldwin. Freeport, which has trailed at the end of the opening quarter in its last two games, beat Uniondale 27-18 last week.
In Conference II, defending champion Garden City (6-0) was seeded behind Carey (4-2) but looks like the team to beat again. They'll meet at Carey at 1:30 p.m. The Trojans, who beat the Seahawks in last year's title game, has allowed double digits in points only once this fall. Carey has been up and down, scoring at least 39 in three games and fewer than 20 in three others.
