George J. Towns, 27, was identified as the man who was shot during a fight with three Nassau County police officers at the intersection of Mott and West End avenues in Inwood at 2:09 p.m. last Sunday, police said.

Towns, who listed residences in both Valley Stream and Copiague, was remanded into the custody of the Nassau County’s Sheriff Department after a bedside arraignment was conducted by Judge David W. McAndrews at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside on Tuesday.

Investigating an earlier incident of reckless endangerment, also in Inwood, police came upon a man and woman, who were suspected to be at a house party on Henry Street where there was a report of gunfire at 2:20 a.m. on Feb. 26.

When the police approached the pair there was a struggle between the officers and Towns, who was shot, according to police. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The woman wasn’t injured. All three police officers were also taken to a local hospital and treated for their injuries, authorities said. A gun was recovered at the scene, police said.

Towns was charged with menacing a police officer and more charges are expected to be presented to a grand jury at a future date.

In a related incident, police arrested Dwight Stephenson, 21, of Thursby Avenue in Far Rockaway, for two counts of criminal possession of a weapon-second degree, reckless endangerment-first degree and possession of a dangerous weapon-fourth degree.

Police responded to a call about shots being fired at that house part on Henry Street. It was confirmed that shots were fired and shell casings were found at the scene.

Witnesses saw Stephenson putting a handgun and rifle into his car, police said. Both guns were recovered without further trouble.
