Inwood Buccaneer Athletic Club’s Buccaneer Day brought out the fun as football players and cheerleaders warmed up for the coming season and sold raffles and baked goods.

The Inwood Buccaneer Athletic Club held its annual Buccaneer Day warm up for the regular season between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at Lawrence High School on Aug. 26.

For over 30 years, the Inwood-based youth sports organization has held this event. More than 300 children aged 6 to 12 playing on a dozen teams and a half dozen games, including 50 girls on four cheerleading squads took part.

It is a day where the organization showcases all of their teams in regular season atmosphere, said Football Director Frank DeCicco Jr. Opposing teams came from Valley Stream, East Rockaway and Long Beach.

Player and team photos were taken and money to support the regular season was raised through the concession stand and raffles. “We are less than two weeks away from opening day and it is something these kids have been looking forward to and working towards since Aug. 1,” DeCicco said about Buccaneer Day.
