Pro golfers visit Inwood Country Club

Though they didn’t make the cut for the final two days of The Barclays PGA tournament at Bethpage Black, several pro golfers visited the Inwood Country Club on Aug. 25.

The golfers, John Merrick, Mike Hulbert Colt Knost, Matt Bettencourt and Ted Potter Jr., gave a clinic then played golf as part of the Golf Channel’s summer series of PGA pros playing with amateurs.

Golf history at Inwood includes hosting the 1921 PGA Championship, won by Walter Hagen, and the 1923 U.S. Open, won by Bobby Jones in a playoff round over Bobby Cruickshank. On the decisive hole of the playoff, the 425-yard 18th, Jones hit a magnificent approach shot from 200 yards out that landed six feet from the cup. A monument stands where Jones hit one of the most memorable shots in the history of American golf, which led to his first of 13 major wins.
