PSEG Long Island storm update

After a night of strong winds and a downpour of rain, PSEG Long Island customers are experiencing power outages throughout their service area.  Gusts of strong wind will persist through the afternoon. 

With nearly 2,879 customers currently without service, towns experiencing the brunt of the storm are Oyster Bay, Brookhaven, North Hempstead, and Huntington. 

Crews worked through the night to begin restoration efforts. As of 3:30 p.m., power has been restored to over 20,000 customers since 12:01 a.m.  Majority of customers are expected to have power restored by tonight. Until all outages are restored, crews will continue working as safely and quickly as possible.

Over 120 downed trees and fallen limbs are being addressed by PSEG Long Island tree crews and contractors., with more than 900 line workers, tree trimmers, surveyors, and other field personnel. 

PSEG Long Island employees have mobilized  in an effort to restore power to all customers, but in the meantime, safety is key. 

Any downed wire should be considered a "live" wire and avoided both on foot or in a vehicle.  Due to electric currents passing through water, if you see a pool of standing water, do not proceed. To report a downed wire, call PSEG Long Island's  24-hour Electric Service numberat (800) 490-0075 or call 911. 

If using a generator or any gas-powered engine,  never use inside the home,  basement, or garage or less than 20 feet from a window, door, or vent. Use an extension cord of 20 feet or more to maintain a safe distance.
