Inwood and other fire departments extinguish afternoon blaze

A fire at vacant house in Inwood was extinguished by firefighters on Dec. 28.

Local fire departments, including Inwood, responded to a fire at a garage of a vacant house at 58 Nassau Ave. in Inwood between Craft Avenue and Cherry Street on Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. This garage has been the scene of multiple previous fires.
People in the surrounding area were evacuated and traffic off of Sheridan Boulevard by Nassau Avenue was diverted, police said. The fire was extinguished and all roads in the area are now open. There were no injuries, officials said.
