East Rockaway Mayor Ed Sieban dies at 49

Residents, friends and family members are grieving over the loss of East Rockaway Mayor Edward Sieban, who died unexpectedly on July 3 after a brief stay at Winthrop University Hospital. Sieban was 49. The cause of death was acute pancreatitis. more

Elected chair of Long Island Hospital Council

Merrick resident and CEO of Long Beach Medical Center Douglas Melzer was recently named chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council, the association that represents Long Island’s 24 not-for-profit and public hospitals. His two-year term will expire in June 2012. The CEOs from each of the member hospitals comprise the board of directors. more

Police found an unattended suitcase at the Waldbaum's shopping center on Merrick Road in Merrick on Saturday, and the bomb squad was called in.

Second supermarket shut down because of suspicious suitcase

Nassau County Police cordoned off the Waldbaum’s shopping center on Merrick Road in Merrick on Saturday, around 5 p.m., after a suspicious suitcase was left unattended in the middle of the parking lot amid shopping carts and cars. more
