Eighth-graders Gabriela Andrade and Gabriela Espino helped lead Valley Stream North’s girls’ cross-country team to a second-place finish in both the regular season (12-1 record) and Nassau Conference IV championship meet. North Shore took both titles.

For the past decade, Franklin Square resident Joe Rigano’s passion has been youth baseball and softball, and staying committed to other sports programs for local children. As commissioner of the Franklin Square/Elmont Police Athletic League, which has existed for more than 50 years, Rigano is able to live do what he loves most year-round.
Recently, he’s been working to make the local PAL even better.

Franklin Square native Casey Ericson began fighting when he was only 5 years old at Long Island Tae Kwon Do and Body Arts, owned by local resident Tom Festa and located on Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square. When Ericson turned 8, his father, Russell, bought him the “Rocky” movie series as a Christmas gift.
