Chamber, civic light up Franklin Square for the holidays

The Franklin Square Chamber of Commerce lit up Franklin Square last week with Christmas lights and decorations for the holiday season.

The chamber set up six rows of holiday lights throughout the community, as well as a fresh Christmas tree.

The tree was set to be installed by Garden World in Franklin Square in late November, but DelliPizzi instead started lighting the tree on Dec. 2 for two days, to honor the death of Joe Ra, the late Franklin Square and Town of Hempstead public servant.

The tree will be lit every night for the remainder of December.

Along with the installation of the lights and the Christmas tree, the chamber of commerce teamed up with the Franklin Square Civic Association to clean up the triangle of glass near St. Catherine of Sienna Church. Together, the two groups cleaned the area near the tree and had the grass cut and edged.

“We got such a great response from residents,” DelliPizzi said.
