Two men allegedly attempted to rob Stein Family Jewelers, at 784 Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square, on Jan. 15 at 10 a.m., but were interrupted by a shopper.

According to Nassau County’s 5th Precinct detectives, two unidentified men entered the store last Sunday, and one man demanded a 59-year-old man, who was shopping inside the jewelry store, to get in the back of the store while another pointed a handgun at him. Police said the store owner then activated the store’s panic alarm, before having his hands tied together by one of the alleged attempted robbers.

A 33-year-old shopper then walked into the store, startling the suspects, who fled the scene on foot and empty handed, police said.

No injuries were reported, and no proceeds were taken, according to police.
