The Elmont Cultural Center celebrated Haitian Flag Day with a parade on May 18 honoring Haitian national identity and culture. The parade featured themed floats, performances by Central Park Rara, the Flexx Band and other entertainers, showcasing Haitian art, fashion and music throughout the community. Designer Santia McKoy, of Florida, spent several months creating many of the costumes featured in the parade.  Several elected officials were in attendance including U.S. Rep. Laura Gillen, Legislator  Cynthia Núñez and Councilman Tom Muscarella. Town of Hempstead Parks Supervisor John Ferretti and Kadeem Brown also rode on one of the parade floats.
