Despite rainy weather, dozens of Elmont residents, veterans and local leaders gathered at Elmont American Legion Post 1033 to commemorate Memorial Day and honor fallen service members. Community members began the day by placing flags at gravesites before attending the observance, which featured remarks from Nassau County Veterans Service Agency Director Ralph Esposito. Local officials and Royal International Miss New York titleholders also joined the ceremony, which focused on remembrance, patriotism and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
