Korean War veteran Charles Weiland, 70, joined the army in 1958, when he was just 17 years old. He had completed high school and immediately joined the army, spending 13 months in South Korea, nine months in Texas and another nine months in North Carolina.

After completing his service, the Long Island City, Queens, native became a “telephone man,” as he described it, as well as a family man. Weiland has been married for 46 years — the last 43 of which he has lived in Franklin Square — and has four sons and four grandchildren. Weiland joined Post 1087 in September 2010.
