Wesley United Methodist Church women’s group keeps annual spring tea tradition alive to support church operations

A small group of women continues to sustain a decades-long fundraising tradition at Wesley United Methodist Church through its annual spring tea party, helping support church operations and upkeep.

Women arrived at the annual tea party in elegant dress on May 10 to commemorate the occasion, sipping tea, sharing food and conversing with church and community members.
The Wesley United Women in Faith, now down to about five active members, organizes the events each year to support the church. The fundraisers feature homemade food, themed baskets, raffles and vendor donations, welcoming attendees beyond the Franklin Square community for fellowship while raising money for the church.

Members say the efforts have become increasingly important as the congregation has gotten smaller and the church relies more on fundraising to maintain its building and programs. The group also receives support from other congregants and volunteers who assist with outreach efforts.
