This morning, Freeport High School was evacuated following a report of a potential threat.

“The Freeport Police Department received a call with a report of a possible threat in Freeport High School. We immediately evacuated the building, and both the Freeport Police Department and Nassau County Police conducted a sweep," said superintendent Fia Davis said in a statement to parents in the school district posted on the school website.

According to reports the evacuation occurred at 7:20a.m.

Homeland Security was also called in to conduct additional searches inside the school.

Following a thorough search, the district said, police were able to confirm that the threat was not credible.

Davis reassured the community, stating, "Most importantly, all students and staff are safe."

Despite the false alarm, both the Nassau County and Freeport police departments are continuing to investigate the situation in collaboration with the district.

Superintendent Davis addressed the growing concern over these types of incidents, noting, "Unfortunately, incidents of false threats against schools have been on the rise both locally and nationwide, causing unnecessary fear and frustration for families and school districts alike."

Students and teachers were allowed back in the building at 10:44 a.m.

In the wake of the event, additional safety measures are being implemented for the remainder of the day as a precaution.

Davis emphasized the district's commitment to safety, stating that "safety and security is our number one priority, and the district has a number of protocols in place to protect students and staff in these circumstances."
