All that Gershwin Jazz

Paul Joseph Quartet plays to an enthusiastic crowd

Posted

The sounds of “Rhapsody in Blue” and other George Gershwin classics were rendered into jazz tunes when the Paul Joseph Quartet performed to a packed room at the East Meadow Library on March 14.

An Oceanside composer, Joseph led his quartet on the piano, while bass player Edgar Mills and Mike Corn kept the rhythm section, allowing Susan Mitchell to chime in throughout each tune with the sweet sounds of her violin.

The Paul Joseph Quartet performs their instrumental renditions of jazz classics throughout the Long Island and New York City region. Joseph also performs all-original solo piano concerts, featuring works that have received critical acclaim in performances by distinguished regional orchestras, ballet companies and choirs.

The quartet’s next stop is at the North Bellmore Library, at 1551 Newbridge Rd., on April 18 at 2 p.m., for another Gershwin jazz performance. Their series of programs included Jerome Kern jazz, Richard Rodgers jazz, Cole Porter jazz and more.
