Oceanside Library transformed into a world of superheroes, video games and pop culture on Oct. 25, welcoming more than 1,400 attendees to its ninth annual OceanCon celebration.

The four-hour event brought together comic book enthusiasts, gamers, families and cosplay fans for an afternoon of entertainment, hands-on activities and community fun.

Visitors explored attractions throughout the library, including retro arcade games, Pokémon battle stations, gaming tournaments, arts and crafts, and appearances by beloved fictional characters.

Fans of “Star Wars” had the opportunity to meet costumed members of the 51st Legion, while younger attendees enjoyed appearances by Elsa from “Frozen” and Jessie from “Toy Story.”

Outside, larger-than-life attractions included a Pizza Planet truck inspired by “Toy Story,” the Mystery Machine from “Scooby Doo,” and a life-size model of Lightning McQueen from “Cars.”

One of the afternoon’s highlights was the cosplay contest, where participants showcased their creativity through elaborate costumes inspired by their favorite characters. Winners were selected in three age categories: children, teens and tweens, and adults.

Gaming enthusiasts competed in a “Mario Kart 64” tournament, tested their Pokémon knowledge during trivia and enjoyed classic arcade favorites, including “NBA Jam” and “Ms. Pac-Man.”

The celebration also featured live music from The Subspace Emissaries, who performed selections inspired by video games, anime and pop culture.

Creative activities included Pokémon-themed crafts, superhero cupcake decorating, comic book magnets and an album cover design workshop. Local vendors offered artwork, collectibles and other merchandise.

The library also provided inclusive crafting activities and a designated quiet space, helping make the festivities accessible to visitors with different needs.

The first 100 guests received special door prizes, while complimentary goodie bags and other giveaways added to the excitement.

With OceanCon’s 10th anniversary approaching in 2027, library officials are already looking ahead to another celebration of creativity, fandom and community connection.
