Old friends caught up on what’s been going on in their lives since their days at Lynbrook High. Other events included a walk through the school, a visit to the football game with Lynbrook playing Hewlett, and a trip to White Castle, Gino’s Pizza, and other old “haunts.” more

Becker, Nassau County legislator for the 6th legislative district, in the 4th Congressional District race in November’s national election. But first, here is a breakdown on what McCarthy told the Herald about her issues and views on the road to trying to achieve re-election.Carolyn McCarthy, 66, is currently serving her 7th term in the U.S. Congress as a representative of 4th Congressional District. The district includes Baldwin, East Meadow, East Rockaway, Elmont, the Five Towns, Lynbrook, Floral Park, Franklin Square, Garden City, Hempstead, Malverne, Mineola, Carle Place, New Hyde Park, Oceanside, Rockville Centre, Roosevelt, Uniondale, Valley Stream, West Hempstead, and Westbury. Police Officer Joseph Cosenza of the Lynbrook Police Department was honored recently with the 2010 Town of Hempstead Police Service Award. The Town recognized law enforcement professionals from the Nassau County Police Department and village police departments within the town at its annual ceremony. more

Nori Mattson, 65, and her husband, Art Mattson, 67, have been riding motorcycles for more than 40 years — but this year they set a new record for themselves. The retired Lynbrook couple crossed five Canadian provinces, cruised down the Pacific Coast Highway, and returned to Long Island by a southern U.S. route. The 9,437-mile adventure took 37 days. Their motorcycle? A Honda Goldwing (1800cc) that cruises at 80 MPH on the open road. more

Greis Park in Lynbrook was the place to be last Saturday for the annual Lynbrook Expo, which also served as the village’s official kick off of its centennial celebration. Fun, food and sunny weather made for a winning combination. “I think everyone had a good time,” said Expo coordinator Carol Burak. “There was something for everyone — when the weather is wonderful, the event is wonderful.” more
