The Village of East Rockaway is helping local students start the school year prepared by supporting the East Rockaway Junior Fire Department’s school supply drive.
Mayor Gordon Fox and the Village Board recently donated school supplies to the drive, which is collecting notebooks, folders, pencils, crayons and other classroom essentials for students in need.
The Junior Fire Department organized the collection to help ensure local children have the materials they need as they head back to school. Village officials praised the Juniors for taking on the community service effort and encouraged residents to contribute to the drive.
The donation is one of the latest community service efforts led by the Junior Fire Department, which gives young members an opportunity to become involved with the fire service while giving back to East Rockaway.
