Lynbrook pedestrian walkway nears completion in downtown district

The Village of Lynbrook’s pedestrian walkway connecting Atlantic Avenue and Broadway is in the final stages of construction, with officials saying only a few finishing touches remain before the project is complete.

The walkway serves as a convenient link between two of the village’s busiest commercial corridors, providing residents and visitors with easier access to downtown businesses while creating a more welcoming entrance to the district.

During the July 13 Village Board meeting, Police Chief Brian Paladino said the walkway’s stucco work, brickwork and decorative archways have all been completed. The remaining work includes installing interior wall sconces, painting the rear archway and completing the final asphalt work.

“We are very close to being completed on this project and it’s a great asset to the village,” Paladino said.

Paladino also noted that new brickwork has been installed throughout the walkway. Mayor Alan Beach said he hopes nearby landscaping, potentially with assistance from PSEG, will further enhance the area and complement the completed improvements.

“I think it will all come together,” Beach said.

Once complete, the renovated walkway will feature upgraded lighting, decorative architectural elements and improved pedestrian access, further enhancing the connection between Atlantic Avenue and Broadway and supporting Lynbrook’s ongoing efforts to improve its downtown business district.
