Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Lynbrook marked the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with prayer and remembrance on Sept. 11.

The parish, led by the Rev. Steven McClernon, its pastor, held a special memorial Mass at 5 p.m. in honor of those who died in the attacks, as well as the survivors, first responders and others who continue to carry the impact of that day.

Following the Mass, clergy and parishioners joined the wider Lynbrook community at the village’s annual Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony at the Memorial Garden outside Village Hall.

Our Lady of Peace also observed the anniversary earlier in the day with a 12:10 p.m. Mass dedicated to those who were lost on Sept. 11, 2001. Students gathered shortly afterward for a flag-lowering ceremony before leaving school for the day, allowing the parish and school communities to commemorate the anniversary together.

“We are OLP,” the parish wrote following the observance. “And we will never forget.”
