The owner of a Rockville Centre wellness business was arrested on May 22 after a woman reported finding what appeared to be a recording device inside a massage therapy room, Nassau County police said.
According to detectives, a 32-year-old woman was at Kokoro Wellness, located at 78 N. Village Ave., at around 4:51 p.m. that day when she noticed what appeared to be a recording device mounted on the wall inside a massage therapy room. The woman left the business and contacted police.
Following what authorities described as an extensive investigation, detectives arrested Luke Unneland, 38, of Copiague, the owner of Kokoro Wellness. Investigators said they later determined that three additional patrons were also victims.
Unneland was charged with four counts of unlawful surveillance and was arraigned the next day at First District Court in Hempstead.
During the investigation, Nassau County narcotics and vice squad detectives also determined that illegal massages were allegedly being conducted at the business, police said. Authorities arrested Daniela Cespedes Almonacid, 35, of Corona, Queens, without incident.
Cespedes Almonacid was charged with unauthorized practice of a profession and released on an appearance ticket, according to police. Investigators also said she was in the United States illegally and subject to removal proceedings. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents took her into custody.
