The Donald Browne Pathway has officially reopened to the public following the completion of a major restoration and improvement project aimed at enhancing safety, accessibility and the overall visitor experience.
The project, which began in April, was part of the village’s ongoing commitment to preserving, maintaining and improving local parklands and recreational spaces for residents to enjoy year-round.
Restoration work along the Donald Browne Pathway at Hempstead Lake State Park included a complete rehabilitation of the walkway, as well as the installation of new steel edging designed to provide a safer and more accessible route for pedestrians, joggers and visitors.
To allow construction crews to complete the work safely and efficiently, the pathway and Peninsula Boulevard pedestrian bridges were temporarily closed during the renovation.
Village board members Mayor Francis X. Murray, Deputy Mayor Kathy Baxley, Trustee Katie Conlon and Trustee Gregory P. Shaughnessy recently visited the pathway with their dogs to celebrate the project’s completion.
The village looks forward to seeing residents enjoy the newly improved pathway and its natural surroundings throughout the summer and beyond.
