Rockville Centre schedules spring hydrant flushing April 22–28

Residents may experience temporary water discoloration and pressure changes during routine maintenance

The village water department will conduct routine hydrant flushing from April 22 through April 28 as part of its regular maintenance program. Officials said the work, performed twice each year in the spring and fall, helps maintain water quality for residents and businesses and ensures hydrants function properly for firefighting.

During flushing, residents may notice temporary fluctuations in water pressure or discolored water. While the water will remain chemically and bacteriologically safe to drink, officials advise residents to avoid doing laundry during flushing times because discolored water may stain fabrics.

Flushing will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 22 in areas north of DeMott Avenue; April 23 between Lakeview and DeMott avenues west of Long Beach Road; and April 24 between Sunrise Highway and DeMott Avenue east of Long Beach Road. Overnight flushing from midnight April 26 to 8 a.m. April 27 will occur between Lakeview Avenue and Merrick Road, followed by work from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 28 in areas south of Merrick Road.

Residents with questions may contact the water department at 516-678-9301.
