Under bright lights and in front of an audience, students of all acting abilities shared the stage, telling a story of inclusion, creativity and collaboration in Centre Stage, South Side High School’s inclusive theater program.
This year’s production, "South Side in Neverland," showcased months of preparation and teamwork while highlighting the talents of every participant. The students took the audience to the world of Neverland from May 28-29, featuring iconic characters such as Peter, Wendy and Tink.
District officials said the program’s impact extends beyond the stage, helping students develop leadership, communication and social skills in a supportive environment.
Centre Stage has become a longstanding tradition in the Rockville Centre School District, demonstrating how the arts can bring students together and create opportunities for everyone to shine.
Founded in 2008, the program brings together general education and special education students as performers, peer mentors and crew members, creating opportunities for participants to develop acting, music and storytelling skills while building meaningful relationships.
Over the years, Centre Stage has expanded to include students from the district’s elementary and middle schools, making it a celebration of inclusion across the Rockville Centre school community.
