With the season entering its final stretch, the Morelli Architecture and Design team in the Rockville Centre Juniors softball division is proving that hard work and persistence are paying off.
Eight games into the season, coach Angelo Bologna has watched his players make significant strides in all facets of the game, from hitting and baserunning to defense and field awareness.
"The girls have been showing a lot of progress since the beginning of the season," Bologna said. "We've been working on hitting, running the bases and defense, while also giving players opportunities at different positions to see where they excel."
One of the team's most encouraging performances came in a recent matchup against New Hyde Park. After playing back-to-back games, Morelli Architecture and Design showcased the development that has taken place throughout the season.
"The team really showed how they've progressed with defense, pitching, hitting and running the bases," Bologna said.
What stood out most to the coach was his team's ability to deliver in pressure situations. The hitters consistently battled through tough at-bats, putting the ball in play with two strikes and producing runs when opportunities arose.
"Our hitters did a good job hitting with two strikes and scoring runs," Bologna said. "They were also able to come through when it counted with two outs."
Among the players who have shown notable improvement this season are Cameron Kuhlmey and Eva Trivigno. Both have emerged as reliable contributors at the plate after putting in extra work throughout the season.
According to Bologna, their success is the result of dedication and a disciplined approach during games.
"A lot of practice and patience at the plate," he said when asked what has fueled their improvement.
While the team's growth on the field has been impressive, Bologna said the aspect he is most proud of is the way his players support one another.
"The way the girls play as a team and work off of one another," he said.
As the season approaches its conclusion, Morelli Architecture and Design continues to build confidence and chemistry, giving the team plenty to celebrate as it heads toward the postseason.
