Rockville Centre lowers water rates — a drop
When Rockville Centre Comptroller Michael Schussheim asked the Board of Trustees to approve his changes to the village's water rates for the upcoming year, everyone at the May 25 meeting seemed shocked. Some gasped. There was even applause. Schussheim proposed lowering the rates by 5 percent. And the trustees agreed, although just barely, adopting Schussheim's recommendation in a 3-2 vote. more

"It’s Not Your Father or Mother’s Suburbs…,” according to Lawrence Levy, the guest speaker at the next public meeting of the Rockville Centre Democratic Club — this Monday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the Rockville Centre Public Library.  If not your father's or mother’s suburbs, then whose is it?Have the suburbs changed that much since Dad and Mom moved here?While we live in the suburbs, do we really understand how they're evolving? And, does that change matter to us? To help us understand the implications of this evolution, the club invited Mr. Levy, who is currently the executive director of the National Center for Suburban Studies at Hofstra University. He is known to many as a well-respected political columnist and editorialist. He has also hosted political discussions on Channel 21 and, as recently as May 17, joined Brian Lehrer on National Public Radio in an open phone discussion on this subject with citizens of both Nassau and Suffolk counties The question: “Taxes, jobs, housing and traffic…can they be fixed?” will be explored and interpreted through the very latest demographic data about Long Island. For a new look at our island, perhaps through a different lens for many of us, members of the community are invited to come to the library for this meeting which is open to everyone —membership in the club is not required.

It was sunny and steamy on Monday morning as several generations of Rockville Centre residents paused to pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those who put their lives at risk every day to defend America's liberty. Also remembered during the hour-long Memorial Day commemoration at Veterans' Memorial Park were the sacrifices of veterans who are still living and the families of those serving in the armed forces who continue to bear a heavy burden. more
