For his Eagle Scout project, Sebastian Percy, with Lynbrook Scout Troop 336, is doing something that could save lives. On March 8, he hosted a fundraising pasta dinner to help purchase an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for St. James United Methodist Church in Lynbrook.

“We hope it’s never needed,” said Percy, about the AED, “but we’re more comfortable that it’s here.” He raised $1,390 at the dinner. Stations were set up so the attendees could learn more. Karl Keller, of Tiedemann’s Diving Center, demonstrated how the AED works, and a video accompanied it. Sergeant Brian Paladino, representing the Lynbrook Police Department and the Police Benevolent Association, spoke about personal safety.
