L.I. Nets rally to top Raptors

The Long Island Nets (4-1), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, defeated by Raptors 905 (1-3) 129-119 on Wednesday evening at Nassau Coliseum.

Brooklyn assignee Kessler Edwards recorded an NBA G League career-high 36 points and 10 rebounds, recording his second double-double of the NBA G League season in addition to two assists, three steals and four blocks while 60.8 percent shooting from the field and 50 percent shooting from deep in 38 minutes. Additionally, Edwards shot 7-of-10 from the field and tallied 21 of his 36 points in the fourth quarter. Brooklyn two-way guard David Duke Jr. notched 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists and one steal in 33 minutes. Brooklyn center Day’Ron Sharpe posted his ninth consecutive double-double of the NBA G League season with 16 points and 18 rebounds to go along with four assists and one block in 34 minutes, while on assignment.

The Nets set the pace in the first period against the 905, going on a 16-6 run in the last five minutes of the opening quarter. Long Island closed the quarter shooting 59.3 percent from the field and 50 percent from the 3-point range to lead by 10, 36-26, heading into the second. Long Island looked to extend its lead in the second period, but the 905 moved quickly. Raptors 905 outscored Long Island 43-24, took the lead and closed the first half ahead by nine, 69-60.

 

The Nets tried to battle back in the third quarter, but relief never came. The 905 outscored Long Island 33-31 in the quarter and kept its lead 102-91. The Nets’ persistent effort continued, and it paid off as Long Island went on an extended run and turned the tides in its favor. Long Island outscored the 905 38-17 on 54.5 percent shooting from the field in the final quarter to defeat the 905, 129-119.

905 center Reggie Perry recorded a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds in 35 minutes. Raptors 905 guard Saben Lee posted 27 points, four rebounds and 10 assists in 41 minutes.

Long Island will face Westchester on the road on Friday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m. ET. Raptors 905 will return home to face the Capital City Go-Go on Monday, Jan. 9, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
