The home of the three three-time champion Wantagh Warriors’ Baseball team will be upgraded as part of a project funded by Nassau Legislator Steve Rhoads.

The $72,000 in Community Revitalization Project (CRP) funds was initially requested in August 2016 by District Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics, Jennifer Keane, and approved by the full county legislature in May 2018.

The project would include fencing, railing and concrete work in and around the dugouts at the Varsity Softball and Baseball fields at the high school, including roves on the dugouts, new team benches and the installation of a batting tunnel.

“Wantagh’s athletic programs have provided such a great experience for our student athletes and so much pride for our community over the years,” Rhoads said. “I was happy to have the chance to partner with the District on capital improvements that will better that experience.”

Keane said now that the funding has been approved, “we have to work with the company to set up the project timeline. Our goal would be to complete the project as soon as possible.”

John C. McNamara, Superintendent of Wantagh Schools, thanked Legislator Rhoads for securing the funds to upgrade the baseball and softball fields. “His efforts on behalf of our district and our students are very much appreciated,” McNamara said in a prepared statement.
