Former Oyster Bay supervisor heading to court to face state charges

Former Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto is scheduled to appear in Nassau County Court on Friday morning to plead guilty to state corruption charges. He will appear before Justice Charles D. Wood, a Westchester Supreme Court Judge, at 9:45 a.m.

Venditto, 70, of Massapequa was acquitted in a jury trial in 2018 in a federal corruption case of all 27 criminal counts that included wire fraud, federal program bribery and securities fraud.

He could have been sentenced to four years in prison if found guilty of the state corruption case. His plea of guilty on Friday might spare him from serving any jail time.

“This marks the end of a dark chapter in the town’s history, which is associated with the past,” said Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino. “My administration has a zero tolerance policy for corruption . . . we are moving Oyster Bay forward to make sure the taxpayers are protected.”
