Professional pianist, Miho Nobuzane, hosts jazz concert in Uniondale

As the community is starting to jump into the holiday spirit, one of Uniondale’s newest residents took matters into her own hands to spread joy this season.

Miho Nobuzane, who is a professional pianist and recently moved to Uniondale less than a year ago, hosted a holiday-themed jazz concert in the large auditorium at the library.

Her quartet, featuring Benjamin Willis on bass, Kurganov Boris on both the violin and saxophone, and the legendary jazz musician, Victor Jones, on drums.

The concert featured all of the holiday classics — such as Santa Claus is coming to town, rockin’ around the Christmnas tree, Rudolph the red-nose reindeer, jingle bells, and more. Not to mention, they also performed original music pieces composed by Nobuzane herself.

Nobuzane, who is originally from Osaka, Japan, began playing the piano at age four during her attendance at the Yamaha Music School. She graduated from Kobe Yamate Women's Junior College with a degree in classical piano.

After arriving in New York almost 20 years ago, Nobuzane has since performed at many big name places throughout the city, such as The Blue Note, Iridium, B.B. King’s, The Cutting Room, The Lincoln Center, and many more — now adding the Uniondale public library to her list of historical venues that she has played at.

“I just moved to Uniondale a year ago so it was very nice to play for the community,” Nobuzane said after the concert, “I hope I get the opportunity to play more for them,” she said with enthusiasm.

“I really enjoyed the show, it was great,” said Valerie Fong, who came all the way from Central Islip to hear the jazz music she is an enthusiast of. Fong says she enjoyed not only the Christmas tunes, but also Nobuzane’s original music as well. “I think they make very beautiful music together.”
