Five field trips, a sports clinic, arts and crafts, dance and movement, board games, reading programs at the Uniondale Public Library, a water slide and bouncy house at a picnic … all rolled into one well-planned summer program run by the Uniondale Community Council Youth Project.

Starting Monday, July 10, the program operates 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday through Friday, until its final day on Friday, Aug. 11. The children, ages 7 to 12, are fed breakfast and lunch, courtesy of Island Harvest.

Parents drop off and pick up the kids at the UCC’s location, 806 Jerusalem Avenue, which has the UCC center, a yurt, and a big tent on an acre and a half of land.

Six staff members and a young person from the Nassau County Summer Employment program will take 40 children through the planned activities, which include a course in conflict resolution.

The five planned field trips will have the children hiking at Cold Spring, studying the environment Jones Beach Inlet with the Cornell Cooperative Extension, roller skating and bowling, visiting the Intrepid Museum, and jaunting to Rye Playland.

School buses rented by the UCC will transport the children to the five destinations.

Registration is still open. Call the UCC at 516-538-9487 and leave a message, which will be returned quickly.

Donations are asked to scholarship children whose families cannot afford the $850 tuition. Please make checks out to UCCYP and send them 806 Jerusalem Avenue, Uniondale, NY 11553.
