Overcast Uniondale man struck by sedan on June 10 dies of injuries

Sergio Vera, 60, of Uniondale, has died of head trauma incurred when he was struck by a 2018 Mercedes Benz sedan nearly three weeks ago.
According to Nassau County Police detectives, on June 10 at 10 p.m., Vera was crossing Front Street at New York Avenue, walking from south to north, when he was hit.
The vehicle’s driver, Eric O. Wheatley, 44, of Norris Avenue in Uniondale, was arrested immediately and subsequently charged with vehicular assault and DWI. He was arraigned on June 11 in Nassau County First District Court at 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
