Three of the six seats on the Hempstead town board are up for election this year, including in the 3rd Council District which serves the southwest corner of the town. Jim Darcy, the incumbent and Republican, is running for his fourth term. He was first elected in 2000, when the town switched to council districts. Darcy was re-elected in 2003 and 2007. more
Incumbent Edward Ambrosino (R-North Valley Stream) is seeking another term as representative of the Town of Hempstead’s 2nd Council District. Ambrosino has served in this position since 2003. His Democratic challenger, Patricia Locurcio is a West Hempstead resident and member of the West Hempstead Chamber of Commerce. She also serves as spokeswoman for HomeFreeHome, a volunteer organization that began on Long Island and works to grant resources to families in need. Locurcio did not respond to the Herald’s questions as of press time. more

Howard Kopel is running for his second term as county legislator of the 7th Legislative District. The Lawrence resident was elected in 2009 after defeating incumbent Jeff Toback. He is being challenged by Adam Moser, a Democrat from Hewlett. Moser is a former district court judge, who has a Rockville Centre legal practice. The 7th L.D. includes the Five Towns communities of Cedarhurst, Inwood, Hewlett, Lawrence and Woodmere, South Valley Stream, Oceanside, Island Park and portions of East Rockaway and Bay Park. more
Francis X. Becker, an original member of the Nassau County Legislature, is running for re-election to represent the 6th District. The Republican from Lynbrook was first elected in 1995. He is being challenged by Anthony Gonzalez, a Democrat from Valley Stream. more

The North Valley Stream resident serves as deputy presiding officer for the Republican majority. Carrié Solages, a Democrat from Elmont, is challenging Ciotti. Two years ago, Solages ran unsuccessfully for county clerk. He works for his family law firm and is a lifelong resident of the community. more
